Delhi Police deny permission for CJP’s October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar, impose prohibitory orders

The CJP has called for a youth-led demonstration at Jantar Mantar against alleged electoral irregularities.

New Delhi (TIP): The Delhi Police have denied permission for the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 and imposed prohibitory orders in the New Delhi district ahead of the demonstration over alleged “vote theft”, says PTI.
In view of the proposed protest and the possibility of crowds moving towards sensitive locations, the police have also requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to consider closing entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations across the national capital and reducing train frequency at these stations.
According to an official communication dated Thursday, the proposed restrictions are to begin at 9 pm on Friday and remain in force on Saturday until the situation normalises. However, the communication only records the police’s request and does not confirm that the DMRC has approved or implemented the measures.
The stations identified include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, New Delhi, Mandi House, ITO, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, Kashmere Gate, Karol Bagh, INA, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Seelampur, Welcome, Shahdara, Rithala, Rohini East and Rohini West, among others.
The CJP has called for a youth-led demonstration at Jantar Mantar against alleged electoral irregularities.
Meanwhile, CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke alleged that several activists had been detained across the country ahead of the protest and vowed to proceed with the demonstration.
“Thousands of youngsters have been detained across country by the BJP Govt ahead of our October 10 protest. This intimidation is not going to work, Modi. The youth of this country are no longer scared of you. I’ll be landing in Delhi tomorrow and will march to Jantar Mantar, come what may,” he posted on X.
In a separate development, the Delhi High Court on Friday declined to urgently list a petition filed by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) challenging the Delhi Police’s refusal to grant permission for a proposed protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar. The court said it would hear the matter on Monday.
Senior advocate Sanjay Ghose mentioned the plea before a division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre, seeking an urgent hearing. He submitted that the petition had been filed two days earlier.
“What is the urgency? We will hear it on Monday,” the Acting Chief Justice said.
The petition, filed by IYC national president Uday Bhanu Chib, challenges a police order dated October 1 rejecting the organisation’s request to hold a demonstration. The IYC said it had sought permission on September 25 for a peaceful protest involving around 100-150 people and was willing to comply with security, traffic management and public-order requirements.
The organisation argued that the refusal violated its fundamental rights to freedom of speech and expression and peaceful assembly under Articles 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(b) of the Constitution. It also challenged what it described as the mechanical application of guidelines governing public gatherings.
