In the fast-paced world of global business, few leaders manage to successfully command multi-billion-dollar media conglomerates while simultaneously pioneering the future of holistic healthcare. Yet, Harish Goyal does so with a characteristic blend of strategic brilliance and calm, disciplined execution.

As the Head of Media & Entertainment (Americas) for ZEE Entertainment Enterprises and the CEO & Managing Director of the ultra-luxury YO1 Longevity & Health Resorts in Upstate New York, Goyal is uniquely positioned at the intersection of two of the most vital sectors touching the South Asian diaspora today: cultural connection through media, and vibrant living through wellness.

Driving ZEE’s North American Expansion

ZEE5 Global is home to 200,000+ hours of on-demand content.

For millions of South Asians across the United States and Canada, staying connected to the roots, rhythms, and realities of the subcontinent is an emotional necessity. Under Goyal’s sharp leadership, ZEE5 Global and ZEE TV’s linear portfolio have transformed from simple entertainment avenues into an expansive, 200,000-hour digital home.

Goyal’s focus in North America centers on aggressive audience expansion, strategic distribution partnerships, and bringing thought-provoking, authentic stories to global screens. Says he: “For South Asian audiences across North America, movies and telenovelas remain an important connection to the history, realities, and voices of the subcontinent.”

This knack for global scaling is nothing new for Goyal. Since joining the Essel-ZEE Group in 2014, he has footprinted the company across the Americas, Asia Pacific, Africa, and the Indian Ocean Islands. Notably, during his tenure as CEO for Africa and Asia Pacific, he masterminded the explosive launch of Zee World English, taking mainstream Indian entertainment into 30 million homes across 44 African countries.

Remarks Harish Goyal, “The USA and Canada market continues to be an important growth region with evolving audience preferences and increasing opportunities for innovation. Our focus remains on strengthening our content ecosystem, building strategic partnerships and creating meaningful consumer experiences that drive long-term growth and deepen audience engagement across markets.”

Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Science in New York

While his right hand steers the massive ship of entertainment, Goyal’s left hand guides a 1,500-acre oasis of deep healing. Since 2021, he has served as CEO & Managing Director of the 5-star YO1 Longevity & Health Resorts nestled in the pristine Catskills region of New York.

Derived from the Sanskrit word Yovan (youth), the name YO1 represents a profound attempt to address modern, high-stress lifestyle issues—including insomnia, anxiety, and metabolic health issues—by blending Ayurveda, Naturopathy, and Yoga. Under Goyal’s management, the multi-pronged wellness facility has undergone continuous refinement, capturing a massive post-pandemic demographic shift as younger, health-conscious professionals seek out traditional therapies.

Whether opening the property to prestigious spiritual retreats—such as hosting a group of   Pujya Swamis heading BAPS Swaminarayan temples in America—or aligning with major community celebrations such Diwali at Times Square, FIA’s India Day Parade in Manhattan, AIA’s Deepavali Festival on Long Island, Goyal ensures that ancient Indian heritage is elevated to world-class standards on American soil.

A Legacy Built on Transformation

Goyal’s remarkable executive journey spans over three decades and multiple high-stakes sectors. Long before shaping media and wellness, he was a key member of the founding leadership team that transformed Indus Towers into a $15 billion telecom powerhouse and market leader. Later, as Group Chief Marketing Officer at ACME Group, he drove international joint ventures with clean energy titans like Samsung SDI (Korea) and EDF (France) to accelerate renewable infrastructure.

Even while managing entertainment and media business across 35 countries, Goyal remains deeply committed to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. He channels his decades of business wisdom directly back into the academic world, serving as a Professor of Industry Practice at Indraprastha University in New Delhi, where he mentors students and drives curriculum innovation.

In an era where corporate leadership is often defined by narrow specialization, Harish Goyal stands out as a rare, multi-faceted changemaker. Whether he is launching a streaming platform in Canada, expanding a television network in the Caribbean, or prescribing the therapeutic benefits of the five natural elements in Upstate New York, Goyal continues to elevate the global South Asian footprint with vision, culture, and purpose.

YO1 Health Resort: Where Eastern Wisdom Meets Catskills Luxury

YO1 is a 6-story spa-cum-health center nestled in 1,500 acres of land they acquired with two private lakes and a golf course.

Wellness comes in many forms—whether it is hitting the gym, brisk walking, intense yoga practice, mindful meditation, or immersive holistic therapies. Nestled in the scenic Catskill mountains of New York, Yovan Longevity & Health Resorts (YO1) offers a luxurious setting for all these health and wellness activities. Born out of a vision where comfort meets cure, the sanctuary beautifully bridges ancient Eastern healing techniques with ultra-modern five-star amenities.

The name and true intent of the resort is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Yovan’, meaning youthful. It represents humanity’s timeless quest to attain rejuvenation of mind, body, and spirit. The facility is spearheaded by its CEO, Harish Goyal, who simultaneously manages ZEE TV Americas and has executed major scale projects for YO1’s parent company, the Essel Group.

A Sanctuary, Not a Traditional Hotel

The resort features an ultra-modern, 6-story building raised from scratch on over 1,500 acres of pristine landscape, including the historic Kutsher property and two distinct lakes. Every one of the 131 rooms and suites is lake-facing, offering views of Bailey’s Lake, while the sprawling property also boasts the larger Anawana Lake and a 300-acre golf course.

However, Goyal emphasizes that YO1 is a dedicated wellness and longevity destination rather than a spa resort.

“Our property is not merely a spa,” Goyal explains. “We envisaged it as a true longevity and wellness destination within driving distance from Manhattan, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.”

He adds, “Most of our guests drive, but we also have provision for a chopper to land.”

The Healing Journey: From 2018 to Today

Though officially inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the International Day of Yoga in 2018, the pandemic delayed full, uninhibited operations until 2021.

“It’s been five years now since we opened,” Goyal shares. “And every year we have been growing stronger by rebuilding and redefining.”

The core focus remains on holistic, natural healing. Guests begin their stay with a preliminary session with expert counselors who check their pulse to advise on Vata (air), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (water) balance. Naturopathy therapies follow, utilizing the five natural elements: water, fire, earth, ether, and air.

To support these therapies, the multi-pronged center boasts an expansive 68,000 sq. ft. spa featuring:

  • 32 distinct therapies across 66 specialized treatment rooms
  • 13 saunas and multiple steam rooms
  • 7 dedicated yoga studios and a state-of-the-art fitness center
  • An Olympic-size indoor pool
  • A plant-based gourmet menu (vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options) operating on a therapeutic 12-hour intermittent fasting schedule (8 p.m. to 8 a.m.)

The Post-Pandemic Demographic Shift

While Covid-19 presented operational delays, it fundamentally shifted public consciousness toward mental and physical health. Goyal points out that this has driven an entirely new, younger demographic to their doors.

“Initially the property catered to the 40-60 age group,” Goyal notes. “But in the last five years I have noticed that a lot of younger people are coming in and they are more health and wellness conscious. Our clientele is now in the age bracket of 28 years to 70.”

Today, seventy percent of YO1’s health-seeking customers are female. The venue has become a highly sought-after destination for high-profile group bookings—ranging from Hollywood film shoots (including a prominent wellness atrium scene filmed for the 2024 psychological thriller Smile 2) to premier spiritual retreats and hosting sojourning gurus from various traditions.
