Avenue in Richmond Hill to be named Guru Nanak Way in honor of the First Master of the Sikhs

NEW YORK (TIP): New York City has decided to name 97 Avenue between Lefferts and 117 Street in Richmond Hill, NY as Guru Nanak Way. The commemoration ceremony will take place on November 30, the day of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 551st birth anniversary. Council member Adrienne Adams, Assemblyman David Weprin and other elected officials are expected to join, as also Sikh leaders from all over New York. Council member Adrienne Adams who represents the Richmond Hill  area in New York City Council had initiated the move and was joined by several others in the City Council.Earlier last month, 101 Avenue , from 111 Street to 123 Street was named as Punjab Avenue. The Punjabi community has a strong presence in Richmond Hill where there are two major Sikh places of worship known as Gurdwaras.
