Olympic about country, not individual: Sushil Kumar

NEW DELHI (TIP): Narsingh Yadav’s bronze-winning performance at the Las Vegas World Championship in September this year led to speculations in the wrestling fraternity as he earned a Rio Olympics quota place in two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar’s weight category (75kg). However, Sushil himself is clear that Olympics is about representing the country and not about an individual. “Narsingh did a splendid job at the World Championship and I have congratulated him for his achievement. Who goes to Rio is federation’s call but Olympics is about representing your country and not about an individual. So, the best man should be selected be it me or Narsingh,” Sushil said on the sidelines of an event on December 2 .

Sushil, who has been out of action due to a shoulder injury since his silver-winning performance at the 2012 London Olympics, underwent 20-day training in Georgia and is confident of returning to form. “I am training really hard for the Olympics. I have every one’s blessings and that motivates me to come back stronger every time. Given our record at international tournaments, everyone has hopes of good performance from wrestling. (PTI)
