“Sandra is not opposed to having more kids in the future. She has her hands full with her career, but having children is what she is most proud of in her life,” a source says.

‘The Blind Side’ star is happy in her relationship with photographer Bryan Randall and the couple is planning to spend their life together. “They have discussed spending their life together. (They consider themselves) pretty much (married)” the source adds.

Bullock, who split from her exhusband Jesse James in 2010 after five years of marriage, feels ‘more in love now’ with her partner and is happy.

  • KATE DEL CASTILLO: I STILL WANT TO MAKE EL CHAPO FILM

KATE DEL CASTILLO: I STILL WANT TO MAKE EL CHAPO FILM

Mexican actress Kate Del Castillo still wants to tell drug kingpin El Chapo’s life story so that all her drama from the past two years counts for something. The jailed crime lord, real name Joaquin Guzman, contacted Kate before he escaped prison in 2015 and asked her to mastermind a biopic.

Del Castillo met with El Chapo’s lawyers and started making calls about a possible movie. Her interest reached Sean Penn, who asked her to set up an interview with the crime boss while he was on the run, during which Penn interviewed Guzman at his jungle hide-out, embarrassing Mexican authorities.

She has since become a wanted woman in her native Mexico, but now El Chapo has been recaptured, she still wants to make his life story. Asked if she was still interested during an interview with Access Hollywood Live, she says, “Absolutely, are you kidding me? After all I’ve been through. I have charges in Mexico. I’ve been charged for money laundering, for obstruction of justice and something else… They’ve been investigating me for a year and a half and the case is almost closed now because a federal judge ordered that… I know I’m clean… If I can’t go back to Mexico, I’m sorry.”

“It’s sad that things like this happen in Mexico, because we have so many other issues, so many terrible, hurtful issues in Mexico right now and that they’re chasing me… it just seems stupid.”

Kate admits Guzman’s lawyers are still in touch with her legal team. “He likes me in a good way; he’s like a fan. He likes my work… I’m just thankful for him to give me the rights to his life story.”

  • RICHA CHADHA ON LOVE LIFE: I WON’T MIND DATING AN ACTOR NOW

RICHA CHADHA ON LOVE LIFE: I WON’T MIND DATING AN ACTOR NOW

Richa Chadha has been quite adamant about not getting into a relationship with someone from the industry, but she seems to think otherwise now.

The 30-year-old says that she won’t mind dating an actor. “I used to feel that way, but now, I have changed my mind. I?have matured with time. I realise that people are people, no matter where they are from,” says Richa.

Unlike many actors who are comfortable being in relationship with someone from the same profession, Richa however, feels that things are more difficult when one is dating an actor. “It comes with its own set of problems. There will always be professional rivalry. There is a lot of temptation (in the industry),” she says.

Richa also says that it largely depends on the person you fall for. “If you meet the right person, and fall in love, you can’t deny it. If someone is perfect for me, I’ll be with him no matter where he is from. But I have to feel that way for him. I won’t date a vaguish businessman. I?need to fall in love with the person,” she adds. Ask her if she has found the right one and she laughs, “I’m interested in some people. Let’s see where it goes. I was so busy with work, but now that I’m going on a break, I’ll finally have some time to concentrate on my love life.”

As far as her career is concerned, Richa has been on the lookout for interesting projects. “I’ve read three scripts and liked two of them. I’ve to say no to the third one and decide what else to do,” says Richa who would be seen in Cabaret and the sequel to 2013 film Fukey.

  • PHILLAURI MOVIE REVIEW

    PHILLAURI MOVIE REVIEW

    STORY

Kanan accidentally marries a ghost, Shashi, while conducting pre-wedding rituals to get rid of bad luck. But as luck would have it, Shashi sticks around and turns into his agony aunt.

    REVIEW

Nothing is scarier than falling in love and having the ghosts of your memories together haunt you. But Kanan (Suraj Sharma) is experiencing a haunting of a more specific kind. He isn’t bothered by memories of a former lover, but by an actual ghost-in-love from another era.

Kanan marries a tree to ward off back luck before his wedding, and the tree turns out to be the resting place of Shashi (Anushka Sharma), who lived and loved there almost a hundred years ago. As a result of this marriage, Shashi is bound to Kanan, who must figure out a way to take care of the unfinished business that’s causing her to linger around.

Conceptually, Phillauri is a winner and that much was evident from the trailer. The idea is superbly original, culturally on point and has great potential. The problem is, you only get what you see in the trailer. Nothing more (and thankfully nothing less). The hilarious, exciting one-line plot develops into a two-and-a-half hour film that is full of romantic-movie tropes.

The invisibility of the ghost can only get so many laughs; the narrative shifts between Shashi’s past and Kanan’s present seem abrupt; the soulful songs are easy on the ears but strain your eyes by adding to the runtime, and most importantly, Shashi’s story (the emotional core of the film) is largely formulaic.

The actors sweep in and carry the film, though. With his body language and voice modulation, Suraj Sharma nails the confused-aimless millennial and lightens the mood. Mehreen Pirzada’s helpless and hopelessly-in-love Anu is endearing. Diljit Dosanjh brings his trademark goodness to a rather bland role. And as the translucent ghost (kudos to the VFX team), Anushka delivers a solid performance with a weird mix of sadness and humour.

  • Never thought of singing: Parineeti

    Never thought of singing: Parineeti

She has had a rollicking career since her Bollywood debut, Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. Now, Parineeti a is set to add another dimension to her career with her singing debut with the song, ‘Maana ke hum yaar nahi’, in her next film, Meri Pyaari Bindu. Herein, she talks about singing, working in Golmaal Again and more. Honestly, it was nerve-wracking. I am always singing. I have even sung on stage before but singing on the mic is on another level. Now, I understand why playback singers are geniuses because for that, you require talent. Thankfully, I think I performed okay for the first song. Every one – including Sachin-Jigar, Maneesh Sharma (producer), Akshay (Roy), Kausar (Munir) and, most importantly, my parents – were happy.

  • I’m not thinking about marriage or planning as of now: Alia Bhatt

I’m not thinking about marriage or planning as of now: Alia Bhatt

She is clearly riding high on the success of her latest hit, Badrinath Ki Dulhania (BKD) making over Rs 100 crore at the box office. As Alia Bhatt prepares to start work on a new lot of films, the actor says she isn’t “looking at only acting.” Here, the 24-year-old talks about career, life, marriage and more.

Technically speaking, it’s a new year but my last release was in November (last year) itself. Although I started promoting BKD two months before, in February, on a personal level, it was almost as if things were in continuation. But somewhere, it has also hit me that it (new film) is probably my only release this year, which is why I made sure that it gets a lot of attraction. So, I did all that I could to push the film throughout the country. That’s the only way it could have reached the interiors of the country.

I do want to settle down early (in life) because I have an advantage of having started off (in career) very early. That way (getting married), I can get done with it and continue (in my career). Also, I don’t want to settle down too late in life because that also has its own issues. But honestly, I’m not thinking about it or planning as of now.

Earlier, we used to say that an actresses’ shelf life lasts only until she gets married. But I don’t think that’s true anymore. That has completely changed, especially with the way Bebo (Kareena Kapoor Khan) has gone about her marriage and even her pregnancy. Even after getting married, she did really well in a few tough films. And now, although she delivered (a baby) a few months back, she is readying to get back to shooting. I think that’s the way it should be for an actor. You shouldn’t stop acting just because you settle down, and I also don’t plan to go that way.

  • MUNNAR’S FASCINATING ATTRACTIONS

    MUNNAR’S FASCINATING ATTRACTIONS

There are plenty of interesting places to visit in and around Munnar. While nature lovers must visit places like Echo Point, Eravikulam National Park and Kundala Lake, there is a lot for culture buffs as well. Other than these, the lush green tea estates that line the roadside in Munnar are a no less attraction for those who can marvel at picture perfect scenic beauty.

    MARAYUR DOLMENS

Marayur Dolmens (burial chambers) are one of the secret places to visit around Munnar. These lie at some 42 km from Munnar on SH 17 and date back to Stone Age, somewhere around 10,000 BC. There are dozens of dolmens peppered around Thenkasinathan Temple near River Pambar. Some of the dolmens, supposedly, date back to Iron Age as well. Other than these intricate burial chambers, the ancient rock paintings in the region are worth a dekko as well. Some of the most interesting paintings can be seen at Kovilkadavu that lies at a distance of around 5 km from Marayur. It is one of the most important sites famous for rock art in Kerala.

    ERAVIKULAM NATIONAL PARK

The national park is governed by the Department of Forest and Wildlife Government of Kerala.

    KUNDALA LAKE

Kundala Lake lies, at some 20 km from town centre, on the road to Top Station. A scenic place that looks more like a picture postcard, Kundala Lake is a major attraction. You can go boating at the lake in one of the many colourful shikaras available here. The lakeside is quite famous for the neelakurinji flowers that bloom in the region every 12 years. With some luck, you can even see hordes of wild elephants loitering on the banks here. A perfect place for nature and photography lovers, Kundala Lake is a great option for a quick family picnic.

    TEA MUSEUM

Other than its world famous tea estates, Munnar also has a tea museum to its name. This interesting museum is set inside the Nallathanni Estate and is a must-visit for tea aficionados. It houses Rotorvane, a 1905 tea roller, a second century burial urn that was found in one of the tea estates around and fascinating information and photographs that date back to the colonial era in India. The museum traces the history and growth of Munnar’s tea estates, taking you back to the time when Munnar was a simple hill town and pioneers of tea industry started the revolution that placed it on every tea lover’s bucket list.

    ECHO POINT

Echo Point, at a distance of around 13 km from town centre, is one of the most famous attractions of Munnar. It is a lakeside famous for its natural echo phenomenon, where whatever you speak loudly comes ringing back at you! The lush green lakeside is a sight to behold and sees a steady trickle of tourists.

  • ASSAM — GATEWAY TO NORTHEAST INDIA

ASSAM — GATEWAY TO NORTHEAST INDIA

Home to the mighty Brahmaputra, Assam is the gateway to northeast India (NE) with its main city Guwahati flaunting its one major railway station and an international airport. But unlike what many think, Guwahati is not the only place to visit in the mystic land of Assam. The biggest city and a commercial hub, Guwahati does have several tourist destinations but the entire length of Assam is filled with countless places to visit which will definitely compel you to prolong your stay in this part of the world.

Being the centre of trade in NE, Assam (particularly some towns) is an assembly point for people from all its neighbouring states. So apart from getting a glimpse of the microcosm of NE, a traveler can indulge in some wildlife adventures in Kaziranga National Park and Manas National Park; pay a visit to world’s largest river island Majuli and go for a heritage walk among the monuments of Sivasagar. Assam’s cleanest town Tezpur is known for its association with some of the episodes from The Mahabharata. If you are looking for some spiritual solace, don’t miss out on Hajo, an epitome of communal harmony, the Kamakhya shrine and the Vaishnavite monasteries of Barpeta.

JATINGA Assam is often associated with mysteries and mythical tales and the hill village of Jatinga is just another page in the book of Assam’s unsolved puzzles. A sleepy hamlet in the North Cachar Hills (a district in Assam), Jatinga is located at a distance of 9 kms from Haflong, the district headquarters. Take a bus ride to Haflong from Guwahati and from there on you can take local conveyance to reach this mystic village. The most bizarre phenomenon that Jatinga witnesses, is the annual mass bird suicide which is yet to find any conclusive scientific explanation. From September to November every year, hundreds of birds commit mass suicide just after sunset – they move down from the sky, plunging to their deaths by crashing into buildings and trees. One possible reason behind this is the theory that the birds get disoriented by the late monsoon season amid wind and dense fog.

HAFLONG District headquarters of North Cachar Hills (a district in Assam), Haflong is one of the best hill stations in Assam. This beautiful town is located 310 km southeast of Guwahati and there is a regular flow of buses to Haflong. The best time to visit Haflong is from October to April and this is the time when the azure blue hills and the green rivers of this town are in their full glory. Thanks to the magnificent valleys, adventure sports options like gliding, paragliding and trekking can be availed by the adrenaline junkie. For the tranquility seeker, we suggest Haflong Lake, one of the largest natural water bodies of Assam. Spend a day sitting by its banks and indulging in occasional boat rides which will take away your travel fatigue.

DIGBOI Located in the eastern most district of Tinsukia, Digboi is a historic place in Assam. This town is synonymous with crude oil and is called the Oil City. And there is a reason behind this title – this is the place where crude oil was discovered in late 19th century and in 1901, the town got its own oil refinery, which happens to be the oldest of its sort in Asia. The refinery is still in operation and a heritage chaser gets the chance to witness a living legend in action here.

But you will be utterly wrong if you think that oil is all that Digboi is in store. Around 45 km northwest of the town, there is the Dibru Saikhowa Wildlife Sanctuary, famous for its rich coterie of flora and fauna. The 18 -hole Digboi Golf Course is another place to visit that offers leisurely walks during the non – tournament season. Digboi War Cemetery will take you back to the dark days of World War II when the Japanese army stormed into Assam. In a nutshell, this town is a queer blend of nature, natural resources, wildlife and British era mementoes making it an unconventional tourist destination.

ASSAM 2ASSAM TEA GARDENS Who hasn’t heard about the world renowned Assam tea? And what could be better than spending some time in one of the many tea estates in the state? The history of Assam tea goes back to the mid 19th century and the colonial charm is still prevalent in some of the oldest estates. The climate and land quality of Assam is not only conducive for tea plantation but also offer a dream run for travelers who are into eco – vacations. Not to mention tea lovers who are ready to go the extra mile to see their favourite beverage in its birth place! Tea gardens are found in almost all the districts of Assam but the ones in Jorhat and Dibrugarh districts stand apart from the rest. Both these places are easily accessible from Guwahati and we suggest you pay a visit to Gatoonga Tea Estate (Jorhat), Thengal Manor (Jorhat), Burra Sahib Bungalow (Jorhat) and Mancotta Tea Estate (Dibrugarh). These gardens are situated off the city borders so we suggest you hire a cab and return to your hotel only late evenings. But in case you are willing to spend a night in the silence of the tea hedges, we recommend pre – booking in the commercial bungalows in and around the estates.

POBITORA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY This wildlife paradise along the Kaziranga National Park and Manas National Park form the holy trinity of one-horned rhinoceros preservation in Assam. Located in Morigaon district of the state, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is just 50 kms away from Guwahati. Home to an immense land mass of muddy marshland, which is conducive for rhino habitat, Pobitora attracts thousands of visitors annually. The constant effort of the park authority is visible from the fact that this place has the highest density of Indian rhinos in one location! Apart from rhinos, a safari in this forest will give you the opportunity to see Asiatic buffaloes, leopards, wild bears, civet cats and wild boars in their natural habitats. Birdwatchers will have a field day here with numerous species of resident and migratory birds, earning Pobitora the title of Bharatpur of the East! You can return to your hotel in Guwahati after a day of jungle safari as this place is well connected by the road network.

But if the traveler in you is not satiated, you can pre – book rooms in the resorts outside the entrance of the sanctuary.

BARPETA A sleepy town located around 90 kms northwest of Guwahati, Barpeta has a name of its own in Assam. Headquarters to the district by the same name, Barpeta has a distinct identity, thanks to its own dialect that is a tad different from the standard written and spoken Assamese. A queer fact of this place is that this town does not have a railway station. The nearest railway station is 22 kms away although this quiet town is well connected by bus and auto service. A major spiritual hub of Assam, Barpeta is famous for its Vaishnavite Thaans and Neo Vaishnavite Satras that are spread across adjoining areas like Sundoridiya and Patbaukhi.

The major Satra is however located at the centre of the town, locally called the Kirtanghar. A peaceful place for prayer and meditation, Barpeta Satra is the epitome of tranquility and inner peace. If you happen to be here during the time of Holi, you will see this Satra in its full glory. Take time to explore the bell and brass metal industry of Barpeta or visit the firecracker workshops that are known for its unmatched quality. The town is graced by three rivers? Chaulkhowa, Mora Nodi and Nakhanda?so the natural beauty of Barpeta is easy to imagine. Buses are in plenty from Guwahati and the stay option has also grown better in Barpeta in recent past. Hotels are easy to locate and any local will lead you to one of them; and don’t worry, they are simple folks!

TEZPUR Situated in Sonitpur district of Assam, Tezpur is an important travel destination for the traveler who likes to uncover unknown heritage sites during a quiet vacation. Located at the bank of the Brahmaputra, Tezpur is a pre – historic city that finds reference even in The Mahabharata. Popular in Assam as the City of Eternal Romance, Tezpur is the background for the mythological love story between princess Usha (King Baana’s Daughter) and prince Anirudha (grandson of Lord Krishna). Myriad archaeological sites, a deep  mythological link and mesmerizing natural beauty make Tezpur a must – visit for every traveler! And yes, other major tourist destinations like Nameri National Park and Itanagar are easily accessible from Tezpur.

Located at the heart of town, Agnigarh hill is one place you should not miss out on. A circular stairway leads to the peak of the hill overlooking the ever flowing Brahmaputra and offers a good trek for the adventure seeker. Take a trip to the historic Cole Park located amidst innumerous hillocks, challenging terrains and lakes; pay a visit to the ancient Mahabhairab Temple; take a stroll along Hazara Pukhuri and spend some time in Bamuni hill – Tezpur will never let you get bored! You can reach Tezpur from Guwahati by taking a 4 – 5 hour bus ride (180 km). Apart from Guwahati, Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) runs an efficient bus service to Tezpur from all the major towns of Assam. Saloni airport is located at a distance of 10 kms from Tezpur and it is connected to the airports at Jorhat, Guwahati and Kolkata.

NO NEW FILMS, BUT KAREENA’S STILL ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Her last release, ‘Ki & Ka’, may have bombed at the box-office, but Kareena Kapoor’s not losing sleep. While she has not signed any new films, she is looking forward to her upcoming film, ‘Udta Punjab’, which also Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

“I’m feeling on top of the world,” the actress, who is holidaying in London currently, was reported to have exclaimed. “I don’t know what I’m going to do next. It is an amazing feeling. It is so dated to say, ‘Oh, I have so many films’. I have no interest in doing numerous films in a year. I will just pick one or two, and that’s it. I have a life. I also want to do other things (besides acting),” she adds.

When pointed out that by not doing too many films, she stands to lose her visibility, she reportedly shot back, “I have never been insecure, as a person, or as an actor. People don’t know me, so they shouldn’t judge me.”

Kareena does not seem keen to follow her contemporaries to Hollywood or turning producer. “I am ambitious, but I am not overambitious. I have always said that I will be a star, I will be a mother, I will be a wife, and I will keep on acting,” she was quoted as saying, adding that she is happy with her life her.

  • MOVIE REVIEW | SARBJIT

    MOVIE REVIEW | SARBJIT

TIP Reader Review: Aishwarya’s acting is the same as always; even with her chest thumping & screaming she fails to impress – Food for thought – Does the Director know about Divya Dutta or Rani Mukerji. Anyways, Hooda’s acting was superb and deserved the 100cr club (if Aishwarya is ignored)

SARBJITREVIEW from the Web: Straight away, Sarbjit is Randeep Hooda’s triumph. In 1990, a simple Punjabi farmer Sarbjit (Randeep) drunkenly wanders across the India-Pakistan border – a milestone in a field – merrily singing ‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’, suddenly captured and tossed into Pakistani prison. This is no ordinary prison – Sarbjit is locked in a box, drowned in water and rats, tortured to say he’s Ranjit, an Indian accused of terrorism in Pakistan.

As Sarbjit struggles to survive, his sister Dalbir (Aishwarya) struggles to make the authorities admit Sarbjit’s identity – and free him. With Dalbir running from haughty CM to indifferent PM, eating under dusty trees, holding dharnas in streets, Sarbjit’s home slowly collapses. His father dies, his wife Sukh (Richa) languishes, his daughters are torn between frustration and grief.

    Can Sarbjit ever come home?
Randeep Hooda brings Sarbjit to life with utter sweetness – ever-smiling, no bitterness mars Sarbjit’s face. As in 12 Years A Slave, the hope to live and love keeps Sarbjit going, his nails and teeth growing black as he gets an annual bar of soap, cherishing a fragment of moonlight, excitedly washing his rags before his family visits – after 18 years of his imprisonment. Whether he’s eating a sweet, stroking a cat or answering, “Ilzam?” with a bewildered “Pata nahin”, Randeep imbues Sarbjit with beautiful, powerful humanity.

Aishwarya presents Dalbir, fraying, yet growing under strain. There are theatrical moments like Dalbir addressing a Red Fort rally or ticking off fatwa fans in Lahore. In trying to show her strain, Dalbir’s make-up grows too grey, the effort too palpable. But scenes like Dalbir being hit by gunmen of the Punjab CM – who watches with elegant disinterest – move you. Richa plays Sukh with quiet intensity while Darshan plays Sarbjit’s lawyer Awais with a breeziness that’s a tad over the top.

Yet, the story deftly weaves in a larger backdrop, from Pokhran to Parliament, 26/11 to Kasab, the editing sharp, the visuals – blue-green skies, grim dark cells, Sukh’s red ‘lapstick’, Sarbjit’s blackened ankles -memorable. The direction depicts a human being and a human truth – individuals often face prisons of politics where the innocent can be shackled in darkness.

Sarbjit breaks your heart – but in contrast to India-Pak fantasies like ‘Gadar’, it bears no blame. It makes you cherish your loved ones – and appreciate others too.

Sarbjit makes a point. Humans come and go. Humanity survives.

Goa is more than just pristine beaches, feni, floating casinos and a happening nightlife. Being a place of immense natural beauty, the state is endowed with breathtaking wilderness and there are more places to visit in Goa, which are perfect for someone who wants to get out of a mundane week and get into something peaceful.

    [inlinetweet prefix=“Travel” tweeter=”” suffix=””]MHADEI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY[/inlinetweet]

Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the eastern part of Goa. Spread in around 208 sq km, this sanctuary supports a wide variety of wildlife and is famous as a bird watcher’s paradise. It is considered as an International Bird Area, and is home to 255 bird species, including Nilgiri wood-pigeon and crimson-backed sunbird. Visitors can also see over 257-recorded species of butterflies flutter around. Owing to the presence of resident Bengal tigers, the sanctuary has been proposed as a tiger reserve. Along with the diverse fauna, it is also popular for its variety of flora that includes sacred grooves, creepers, evergreen species of Ashoka and colourful flowers, among others. Besides its unique biodiversity, Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is also popular for its cascades, especially Vazra Sakla waterfalls and Virdi Falls.

    [inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”” suffix=””]SALIM ALI BIRD SANCTUARY[/inlinetweet]

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, named after the famous ornithologist, is located on the island of Chorao along the Mandovi River. Spread in an area of 440 acres, the sanctuary is covered with a thick mangrove forest, which is usually a natural nesting ground of birds. Different varieties of swallows, bulbuls, kingfishers, swans, woodpeckers, hornbills, etc. are found in plenty at this place.

The sanctuary has 1km-long pathway on which one can walk as close as possible to see the natural habitat of birds, without disturbing them. One can also choose to hire a boat and go around the place.

    [inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”” suffix=””]COTIGAO WILDLIFE SANCTUARY[/inlinetweet]

Located 60 km south of Panaji, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is the second largest in Goa. This sanctuary is notable for its dense forest cover with trees as high as 30m and is a haven for tree lovers. The Talpona River flows through the area and the major watering holes are located on its back. There are fewer big animals in this sanctuary than Mollem, however one can still expect to see bears, wild boars, deer and monkeys. Birds are plentiful in general and some species of eagles, which are not easily spotted elsewhere, can be seen here. Several tribal communities live inside these forests and one can get an insight into their fast fading lifestyle.

One of the important destinations within Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary is the Dudhsagar Falls. Of the numerous waterfalls in the Western Ghats, this is one of the most impressive and is the second highest in India after the Jog Falls. With an area of more than 240 sq km, this park happens to be the largest wildlife sanctuary in Goa. It was earlier called Mollem Game Sanctuary and was renamed to the current one in 1969. However, the core area is still called Mollem National Park. Nestled in the Western Ghats, the sanctuary is home to pristine evergreen, semi evergreen and deciduous forests at different altitudes. The fauna includes the rare black panther, varieties of deer, bison, several members of the primate family, porcupines and a number of species of resident and migratory birds. It is also home to a great variety of butterflies.

  • ALLOW PERSONAL SPACE TO CELEBRITIES: KANGANA

ALLOW PERSONAL SPACE TO CELEBRITIES: KANGANA

Actress Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday urged the media to allow ‘personal space’ to celebrities, when she was repeatedly questioned on her ongoing legal tiff with actor Hrithik

“Sometimes you guys have to allow personal space to celebrities also… It can be very overwhelming. (Being) Strong doesn’t mean you can just walk through life without being affected or intimidated. Being strong means that standing up against things in spite of all of this.”So, you guys need to give me some personal space. It is not that I won’t talk about it. I will. As of now, please grant me that space,” Kangana said when asked for her comments on the sidelines of an event meant for the announcement of the ‘Queen’ actress’ appointment as the Melange by Lifestyle brand ambassador.

Kangana is said to have been in a relationship with her ‘Krrish 3’ co-star Hrithik in the past. A controversy came into being when Kangana hinted at Hrithik being her ‘ex’ as she said in an interview that she fails to understand “why exes do silly things to get your attention”. The topic of discussion was Hrithik’s purported hand in getting Kangana replaced by Sonam Kapoor in ‘Aashiqui 3′. The matter took an ugly turn with both of them slapping legal notices against each other. Hrithik has accused Ranaut of stalking him repeatedly through “senseless, personal, and absurd” emails; while Kangana’ lawyer said Hrithik’s accusations are “baseless”.

  • Kapoor & Sons | MOVIE REVIEW

Kapoor & Sons | MOVIE REVIEW

STORY: Rahul and Arjun visit home – but with family secrets tumbling out, is their reunion a happy one? And what happens when pretty Tia joins the Kapoors and sons?

REVIEW: So, Kapoor & Sons remixes Bollywood’s family drama in a bold new-age avataar. Forever bickering Harsh (Rajat) and Sunita (Ratna) have two sons, successful Rahul (Fawad) and confused Arjun (Sidharth). Suddenly, Tia (Alia) enters the Kapoors’ lives, kissing Rahul – but dating Arjun. How does this triangle square up – and does grandad Kapoor (Rishi) get the family photo he desires?

Kapoor & Sons’ star is its story. This is an entirely real family, full of uncomfortable secrets, awkward jealousies and sharp pain, where brothers steal, parents cheat, siblings suspect and ‘perfect bachchas’ don’t have perfect love-lives. This is a family with its make-up off, screaming through hilarious situations – a sequence involving a plumber is side-splittingly good.

There are subtle touches – Sunita making bhindi which Rahul loves, Arjun hates – bizarre cameos (aspiring ‘Mr. Ooty’, whose bosom jiggles on command) and cinematography that captures lush Coonor with frames where you can, well, almost smell the plentiful grass.

The acting shines. In a wheelchair, Rishi Kapoor runs away with the film, smashing it with hilarious lines – an ‘apology’ goes, “Sorry, bhains” – and his dirty old man portrayal, lusting after Mandakini’s wet sari and using his grandson’s ‘I-Papad’ for porn. Fawad and Sidharth make terrific contrasts, Sidharth vulnerable, yet loving, Fawad, slick, yet asking with pain, “Aap ko mere jhoot bolne ka gham hai – ya meri asliyat ka?”

And Ratna Pathak Shah seals it with a fabulous performance that evolves from angry edginess to calm grief. Alongside, small, silken touches – the shoes of someone who’s gone, the chemistry of Alia and Sidharth, an old-world small town, a new world where children and parents comfort and confront – make Kapoor & Sons special.

On the downside, the music’s forgettable and Alia plays yet another boho-chick, with chic but predictable charm. However, the direction, frequently evoking Monsoon Wedding, keeps things family-focused, with a moving camera and characters in meltdown. Wicked, witty and wise, Kapoor & Sons does Karan Johar proud.

  • KANGANA RANAUT TO ROLL FILM ON SISTER?

KANGANA RANAUT TO ROLL FILM ON SISTER?

After tackling unconventional roles in films like ‘Queen’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, Kangana Ranaut wants to make a film on her sister-manager, Rangoli, an acid attack survivor.

According to the ‘Rangoon’ actress, her sister is less than enthused with the idea though. “I told her that I want the rights to her life. I want to play her, me, and everyone. She replied, ‘yes it will be a big flop’,” Kangana said at an event in the city recently, adding that she thinks her sister’s life is far more interesting than her own, thanks to her husband who has been madly in love with her ever since they got hitched.

Rangoli who accompanied Kangana to the do, narrated her struggle since the incident and how it affected her life. “I was struggling for my life. When acid goes deep inside your skin and if you’re not treated on time, it attacks your organs too. At the time, psychological, scar-related problems were not on mind,” she revealed, recalling the trauma she underwent.

“My sister was there to inspire me. I am more confident today than I was before the attack. I know my strengths and weaknesses,” she reflects, adding, “I ave bigger plans. I would like to produce a film and Kangana will direct it.

  • POOJA BHATT TO MAKE ACTING COMEBACK IN FILM WRITTEN BY FATHER

POOJA BHATT TO MAKE ACTING COMEBACK IN FILM WRITTEN BY FATHER

Filmmaker-actor Pooja Bhatt is all set to make her acting comeback after a gap of 18 years in a film, written by her father Mahesh Bhatt. The 43-old-actress had made her acting debut in 1989 with Daddy, directed by Mahesh. The film was about a young daughter who decides to save her father from getting destroyed at the hands of alcoholism with help of her unconditional love and care.

Pooja said the new film will be ‘reverse’ of Daddy. “I am acting in a film. It is like Daddy, but we are doing a reverse version of it. It’s about an ambitious woman, who gets busy chasing her career and in-turn leaves her daughter to earn money and fame,” said Pooja.

“She is seen depressed and drunk, before realising that she needs to make amends for her acts,” she said. Post her debut, the actress went on to do films like Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Sadak and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee.

Pooja, who was last seen on the big screen in the 1998 Mahesh Bhat-directed drama Zakhm, has no qualms in not doing many films as she refused to simply be an “arm-candy”. “I didn’t do many films because I refused to be an arm candy. When my father retired from direction, I stopped acting too. But today people are telling many good stories and who better than my father to write one. That is why I decided to act,” she said.

The yet-untitled film will start rolling this year, after the makers find a director. “We are still looking for a director who will do justice to the material. My father will never direct a film again. He has said it many times and I didn’t try to coax him to direct this one either,” she said.

Pooja, meanwhile, is working on her next directorial venture, Jism 3.
