That legacy continues through personalities such as Usha Vance, who became Second Lady of the United States in 2025, marking another milestone in the evolving presence of people with Indian heritage in the nation’s public life. Across generations, individuals with roots in India have contributed to America’s advancement in remarkable ways. Scientists such as Nobel laureates Har Gobind Khorana, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, and Abhijit Banerjee expanded the boundaries of knowledge and human understanding of nature.

In technology and entrepreneurship, pioneers such as Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, Arvind Krishna, and Jayshree Ullal have built and led companies transforming the global economy. Their impact is equally visible in America’s democratic institutions. Kamala Harris, the 49th Vice President of the United States, along with public figures including Nikki Haley, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Pramila Jayapal, and Dalip Singh Saund represent a growing legacy of leadership and civic engagement.
